Infertility and acupuncture
Acupuncture regulates the hypothalamus and pituitary glands in your brain that can be thrown out of equilibrium due to stress, aging process, and other environmental factors inhibiting its ability to function properly. Acupuncture promotes the circulation of blood in the pelvic cavity that improves ovarian function. Acupuncture is beneficial in promoting follicle production, enhancing uterine blood flow, and improving uterine lining thickness. Thereby positively enhancing overall health increases the chances of conception.
Acupuncture may assist with treating some of the following fertility imbalances:
Advanced Maternal Age- Chromosomal problems go up with advancing maternal age, because the egg a woman conceives with is as old as she is. Women over 35 will have a significant decline of their eggs especially in the quality of eggs. By increasing blood flow to the uterus through acupuncture treatments this may help to improve the quality of the eggs. It can also help to improve ovulation and to increase the thickness of the uterine lining for implantation of the embryo.
An ovulation – Is the lack of ovulation. Ovulation, which is the release of an egg from the ovary, must happen in order to achieve pregnancy. Research shows that acupuncture and herbal medicine can induce ovulation in many patients.
Hormonal Imbalances - Acupuncture treatments can be especially beneficial for women faced with lateral phase defects, high FSH levels, low estrogen levels, or polycentric ovarian disease. Acupuncture influences the hormonal regulation centers in the brain and autonomic nervous system.
Stress – Women having too much stress can have hormonal imbalances which can cause the time when they release an egg to become delayed or not take place at all. Stress can also reduce blood flow to your reproductive organs. Acupuncture can combat stress increasing circulation and regulating hormones.
Male-Factor Infertility –Low sperm count, low motility - movement, morphology –shape can reduce chances of conception. Acupuncture increases blood flow and increases sperm count.
Miscarriage - There are a number of causes of miscarriage, including chromosomal abnormalities, illness, problems with the uterus or cervix, advanced maternal age, as well as hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture regulates hormones and optimizes progesterone production which is essential to maintaining the uterus lining.
